Detroit rapper GT is building a career that has stretched well over a decade. From his time at Dirty Glove to his deal with Empire, he has continued to evolve in his music and his mindset.
I remember the first time I met GT. He came in for an interview with Babyface Ray and mentioned they had not slept in two days. As the interviewer, that raised some red flags. I was wondering what kind of interview I was about to get if these guys had been doing God knows what for the last 48 hours. GT did not disappoint. We talked through his early life experiences and his rise in the music industry, and he was locked in the whole time.
GT is not like most artists. He takes risks. He steps outside his comfort zone and experiments with different genres and styles. A good example is his track “Detroit Money Phone” with HiTech. That record ended up as my most played song on YouTube in 2025, which surprised me.
That record stuck with me. I kept going back to it, and that says a lot.
